LARSON, Ann, elementary school educator, died March 31, 2011 in Tucson at the age of 89. Ann is preceded in death by her husband, Leslie A. Larson II, and by her son, Leslie "Chip" Larson III. After retiring from teaching in Tucson, Ann lived in Ouray, CO, for a number of years. Anton "Ray" Cecrle 10/4/1939 - 4/3/2011 Ray, formerly of Overland Park, KS, died peacefully in Tucson, Arizona after three years of failing health. He was born in Topeka, Kansas, educated in Wichita, Kansas and spent three years in the Army with assignments that sent him to Greece and Turkey. Upon his return to Kansas City, MO, he started working for Luce, Thompson, a regional Brokerage firm later bought by Stifel, Nicolaus and Co. His tenure at Stifel would last 42 years until his retirement in September 2008. Ray loved his golf, traveling and The Kansas City Chiefs. He and his wife of 35 years, Barbi, moved to Tucson, Arizona where he was able to play a little more golf until serious health issues prevented him in doing so. Along with his wife, Ray is survived by his sister, Mary Jo Bird (Bob) of Hilton Head, SC; brother, Robert (Carol) of Las Vegas, NV; brother-in-law, Tom Bacon of Payson, AZ; niece, Kathy O'meara; her sons, Alec and Nate of Parker, CO; Mike Bird (Sarah) and daughter, Sophia of Denver, CO and Lola, the Schnoodle. Father Charles F. Maloney, Pastor Emeritus, 81, passed away April 5, 2011 in Tucson, Arizona. Born on March 2, 1930 in Worcester, MA oldest of three children of the late Charles J. and Grace M. (Whalen) Maloney. Father Maloney attended Blessed Sacrament Grammar School and St. John's Prep, both in Worcester. Following two years at Holy Cross College, he entered the Paulist College of Catholic University of America and earned a B.A. degree in 1953. After one year of theology at the Le Grand Semanire of Montreal, Canada, he entered Our Lady of the Angels Seminary in 1954. Father Maloney was ordained for the Diocese of Arizona in Worcester, MA on May 30, 1957. He celebrated his first Mass on June 2, 1957 at Blessed Sacrament Church, in Worcester, MA. His first assignment in Arizona was at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament in Miami followed by St. Matthews Church in Phoenix; St. Patrick's Church, Bisbee; Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Scottsdale; Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Glendale. He was given his first pastorate at Blessed Sacrament Church in Mammoth in 1970 and remained there until 1977 when he was assigned to Holy Angels Church in Globe as pastor until 1983. His last assignment was St. George Roman Catholic Parish in Apache Junction from 1983 until his retirement in 2002. He was a pioneer in the rights of the migrant workers and accompanied Caesar Chavez on rallies where he always celebrated a Mass. He was instrumental in starting a Migrant Ministry here in the East Valley that continues to this day. He was a member of the Chaplains Association at Valley Lutheran Hospital and was recognized for his great compassion for the sick, elderly and the poor. Father Maloney is survived by his two sisters, Mary Cotterman (James) of Fair Oaks, CA and Paula O'Neill of Worcester, MA. He is lovingly remembered by his 11 nieces and nephews, 24 great-nieces and nephews and two great-great-nieces. He was a resident of Catalina Village, Tucson, AZ at the time of his death. Funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at St. George Roman Catholic Parish, 300 E. 16th Ave, Apache Junction. Viewing at St. George Church from 8:30 a.m., Rosary at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow the Mass at Valley View Cemetery, Mammoth, AZ. Charles Wiley Hinman 2/9/1927 - 3/27/2011 Born in Boon, Iowa. Predeceased by his parents, Ruby and John and his brother, Jack. Survived by his daughter, Carmen (Dave) Del Grande; granddaughter, Erin (Mike) Mosman; great-grandson, Andrew Mosman; sister, Jeanette Peterson; his neighbor, friend and wife, Irene and her daughters and grand kids that he loved as his own. Chuck served in the, Air Force from '44 - '46. He graduated Grinnell College in '51 with an A.B. in chemistry and got his Ph.D. in Organic and Bio-Chemistry in '54 at U of IL. He worked for Dow Chemical Co. from '54 to '76 holding several positions of importance including Director of Research for both humans and animal application, Director of Scientific Relations with global responsibility, and Director of Pharmaceutical R&D. When he did all he could at Dow he left and went to Diamond Shamrock where he was Director of Life Sciences and Exploratory Research. Chuck served on several U.S. Government advisory commissions including the Solar Energy Research Institute - Biomass, and U.S. Armed Forces Chemical Association. He has had several papers published in technical journals, a book published and held various patents. He served as an adjunct professor at the U. of A. College of Agriculture and served on the board of Directors of several companies before forming his own consulting company. He will be missed by all of us and remembered as a kind, learned and gentle gentleman. Services will be Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 3:30 p.m. at St. Philips in the Hills, River Rd. and Campbell Ave. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity. Chester Richard McCord passed away April 3, 2011 after a brief illness. Loving husband, father and very proud grandfather, Chester was born May 24, 1934 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to Chester and Stella McCord. After serving four years in the Air Force, he returned to Poughkeepsie to work for IBM. There, he met the love of his life, Harriett, with whom he spent 46 wonderful years. Chester is survived by his daughter, Julie (Stephen) Wynkoop; brothers, Robert (Jackie) and Thomas (Pat) McCord; sister, Barbara Moffitt; grandchildren, Brennan and Caitlin Wynkoop as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Harriett and sons, George McCord and Leonard Beale. Chester was active in, Lodge #2532 for over 20 years where he served as Exalted Ruler and District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler as well as volunteering with the Auxiliary and on many committees. A celebration of his life will be held at the BPOE Lodge #2532, 615 S. Pantano Rd., at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2011. Donald Dee Brookins was born November 9, 1955. Our beloved husband, father, son, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend peacefully passed away Tuesday morning, April 5, 2011 at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. He impressed many with his strength and determination in which showed us all, that he is truly our Super Man. A Palo Verde graduate, Donnie fell in love with gymnastics, golf, riding on his Harley and working on endless projects to perfection. He enjoyed living simply, gaining joy and content from helping others. He was blessed with two daughters, Elizabeth (Brian) and Suzanne and he was especially proud of his four grandchildren, Jessica, Matthew, Zachary Gosewisch and Faith Nowell. He is survived by his loving wife, Judy; father, Dee; sister, Patricia Akers and many nieces and nephews. Donnie's infectious spirit will be deeply missed by friends and family. He said when you visited him "you want to see what I am working on?" will forever be in your hearts. From the bottom of our hearts we thank Fran Boyd from Carondelet Hospice for providing Donnie with continuous comfort and compassion, and to all the others at Carondelet for comforting us thru our most challenging times. We know that those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength, they will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not be faint. Ceizyk and son, Michael John Ceizyk. Born January 25, 1913, Helen lived a long, full life, always seeking to touch the lives of people she never knew through participation in many community service organizations. PEMBLE, Herbert F., 87, died April 6, 2011 in Tucson. Herb was born February 14, 1924 in Evanston, Illinois. He is survived by his wife, Beverly and several nieces and nephews. Immediately after high school graduation, Herb joined the Navy where he served four years. He then went to work for a Dental Supply and Equipment Co., and shortly after met his wife to be and they were married in 1950. Herb was recalled by the Navy during the, for another one and a half years. He and his wife, after many working years, retired and moved to Tucson in 1986. Jack Wayne Staten 2/23/1936 - 4/3/2011 Beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away April 3, 2011 in his hometown of Tucson, Arizona. Born on February 23, 1936 to Arlie Ellis and Margarite Geneva Staten in Wagner, OK. Jack moved to Arizona with his family when he was 17 years old and attended Marana High School. Jack was a Chemist at Asarco, Duval Corporation (and its' successors), and Burr-Brown, Inc. and was involved with the Tucson Section of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers (AIME-SME), eventually serving as President. He was also a dedicated volunteer for Junior Achievement of Arizona, a Little League coach, a registered NRA Firearms Instructor, and a certified Waste Water Plant Operator. For many years Jack loved camping with his family along with hunting, fishing, and playing softball with friends. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Jon Stilwell; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Angela Staten, and his four grandchildren, Tina and Tyler Staten, and Mason and Eric Stilwell, and great-grandchild, Olivia Clayton. He is also survived by his sisters, Lavonne Harle, Bonnie Lou Stotler, and Judy Manning, and his brothers, Arlie Ellis "Bud" Staten and Mickey Staten, and his adoptive brother, Larry Dykers and his two aunts, Cara Morrison and Rowenna Mitchell. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Barney Staten and sister, Betty Jean Himebrook. There will be a service on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at DESERT SUNSET FUNERAL HOME for friends and family. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the American Indian College Fund. |

LARRY DEAN HENDRICKSON Larry Dean Hendrickson, age 60, a 22-year resident of the Tri-state Area, and formerly of Crookston, Minn., died Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at WARMC in Bullhead City, Ariz. Larry was born in Detroit Lakes, Minn., on May 28, 1950, to Arne and Edith (Mikulecky) Hendrickson. Larry attended elementary school in Waubun, Minn. and Mapleton, N. D., and in 1968, he graduated from Central High School in Crookston, Minn. Larry remained a resident of Bullhead City until eventually moving across the river to Laughlin, Nev. for the remainder of his years while working as a bartender at the former Ramada Express, now the Tropicana. Larry was well-liked and respected by those he met along life’s road. A gentle man with a great love and devotion to family, his music, and his daughters who put a sparkle in his eye. He will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved him. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Arne Hendrickson. Larry is survived by his two daughters, Heather (John) Lieber of Kansas City, Missouri, and Taylor of Laughlin, Nev; his mother, Edith Hendrickson of Crookston, Minn.; two sisters, Linda Havir of Minnetonka, Minn. and Cheryl (Larry) Froehlich of Crookston; three brothers, Dale (Joyce) Hendrickson of St. Michael, Minn., Miles (Teresa) Hendrickson of Bagley, Minn., and Kevin Hendrickson of Crookston; his grandparents; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. A memorial will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Monday April 4, 2011, in Room 285 in the Hospitality Suite of the Tropicanna Hotel and Casino in Laughlin, Nev. MAJOR DALE MARIOTT Major Dale Mariott, age 80, a 16-year resident of Bullhead City, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at his home in Bullhead City, Ariz. He was born October 8, 1930, in Paragould Ark., and was the youngest of nine children born to James and Margaret Mariott. After his graduation from Paragould High School in 1948, he earned an AA in Business Administration, and moved to Bakersfield, Calif. Major joined the Army for two years, and was stationed at Fort Meade, Md. After leaving the Army, Major worked for Hartford Insurance Company, eventually rising to the position of Regional Manager of the western states, based in Seattle, Wash.  After leaving The Hartford, he worked for California Insurance Group in Alameda, Calif. He married Fonda Lovene Liles of Light, Ark., in 1951, and they had two daughters, Jerri Mariott and Virginia Mariott-Cade. They divorced in 1993. In 1994, he met Ramona Bock, and she was his companion for 16 years. They moved to Bullhead City in 1995, and resided at Davis Camp. He is survived by his two daughters, Jerri Mariott and Virginia Mariott-Cade; three grandchildren, Cole Cade, Cassandra Cade, and David Silpa; and two sisters, Kitty Downey, and Peachy Evans. Mildred Ann (Whitlow) Hughes was born June 15, 1923, in Western Kentucky. She graduated from Murray State University, Murray, Kentucky, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1945, with a double major in English and drama/speech. She married William Curtis Hughes, a music major at Murray State, in 1946. He taught music at Maryville College, Maryville Tennessee, and she taught drama and speech at the college until their son, Joseph Edmund Hughes, was born. During the years, they lived in Atlanta, Georgia, and Indianapolis, Indiana, where he was organist and choir director at two large churches. In 1959, the family moved to Tucson. His health deteriorated and he died in 1988. Mildred began work at Amphitheater Public Schools as a secretary in the district office in 1960. She was secretary to the assistant superintendent, superintendent and the last four years she was secretary to the governing board, and retired in 1987. She was active in organizations of office personnel. She was president of the Arizona Educational Secretaries and in 1975-76 was president of the National Association of Educational Secretaries. In 1989, she was honored as one of 67 alumnae in her sorority, Sigma Sigma Sigma, in commemoration of its centennial. The selection was based on professional and community service. She was active at Northminster Presbyterian Church and was an ordained elder. She served as secretary for Presbytery women for six years and secretary for Synod women for three years. She is survived by her son, Dr. J. Edmund (Carole) Hughes and grandchildren, Joseph Brandon Hughes, Allison (Alli) Marie Hughes and Lauren Renee Hughes; nephew, Mark Whitlow and niece, Becky Guthrie. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Northminster Presbyterian Church. Entombment to follow at Eastlawn Cemetery. HOLLIS, Mildred Daugherty, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2011 at the age of 91. Mildred, known to all of her nieces and nephews as "Aunt Mil", was married to Charles J. Hollis, for 68 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles and her sister, Marjorie. Aunt Mil is survived on the Daugherty side of the family by nieces, Catherine Shiningstar Kaauwai (Sam) of Kapaa, HI, Candi Denney (Larry) from Roopville, GA, Patty Sue Cammon (Fred) and Terri Adamson (Joe) both from La Grange, GA and on the Hollis side of the family by nieces, Pamela Ginocchio (Gino) of Raleigh NC, Diana Jones (Craig) and nephews, Robert Hollis (Susie) of Globe, Arizona and John McLeod (Joni) and Bruce McLeod, both of Tucson. Mildred was born April 20, 1919 in Tucson, Arizona. She graduated from Tucson High School and married her husband, Charles Hollis on August 21, 1940 at First Christian Church in Tucson and together they made Tucson their home. Services for Mrs. Hollis will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 14, 2011 at BRING'S MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 236 S. Scott with parking in the rear off of S. Stone Ave. |

Patricia Anne Graham passed away on February 18, 2011 after a long, brave battle with cancer. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Graham; parents, John and Helen Stephens; sister, Roberta Wasson and niece, Pamela Wasson. Survived by long time companion Isadore Abernathy; children, John (Lisa) Stephens, Stephanie Friauf and Jeanine Webb; grandchildren, J. R. Hiestand, Jennifer Plympton, Pepper and Viking; great-grandchildren, Lynnea, Rodney and Angelina Plympton. Patricia was born September 27, 1942 in Tooele, UT. In 1960 she received the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum scholarship becoming only the 5th female to receive the honor in 20 years to the Montana School of Mines. She had poetry and essays published during high school. She won several awards in both speed and synchronized swimming. In 1967 the family moved to Tucson, AZ where she met her late husband. She was a CPA and a member of the AZ Society of Certified Public Accountants, Who's Who in American Business and the, . Our angel has been reunited with her family once again and is looking over us now in peace. We love you Mom and miss your beautiful smile and quick wit every day. Paul Austin Binney After a long and rewarding life, Paul Austin Binney passed away peacefully with his wife at his side on February 21, 2011. Born August 8, 1927 to Ernestine and William Binney in Madison, Wisconsin, Paul went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from the University of Wisconsin in 1949. He married the love of his life Ruth Elaine Marsh, October 24, 1953. By 1961 Paul was a father of two handsome boys Craig and Dane. In 1963, he was awarded a full fellowship to complete his PhD in psychology at the, . Upon his completion, he began a successful career in Mental Health Administration. In 1977, Dr. Binney went into private practice in Warren, Ohio in affiliation with Saint Joseph Riverside Hospital. His first love was music followed by fast cars. His oldest son Craig passed away unexpectedly in 1983 in a tragic accident. Paul is survived by his wife, Ruth Elaine; his son, Dane William (the late Donna Hogan) and his beautiful granddaughters, Sarah and Julia of Sydney, Australia. Ralph Abate, Jr. was born October 1, 1934, in Hartford, CT. He passed away on February 3, 2011 at home, with his family beside him, in Tucson, AZ. He touched many hearts with his kindness and humor. SANDRA DIANE TULLY Sandra Diane Tully, age 65, a 13-year resident of Bullhead City, died on April 1, 2011 in Bullhead City, Ariz. Sandra was born and raised in Hereford, England, where she completed her schooling as a hairdresser. In 1971 she immigrated to Calgary, Canada, where she met and married the love of her life, Brad. They eventually moved to California where they raised their children until they finally relocated to Bullhead City in 1998 where she worked for seven years at the Mohave Resort Golf Course. Sandra was known for many things during her life but was best known as a mother that anyone could always count on when help was needed. Those who knew her will never forget her kind and giving nature and her willingness to help everyone she knew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bradford; father, Edgar; mother, Beatrice May; and brothers, Rob and Brian. Sandra is survived by her son, Bradford Tully, Jr. and daughter in-law, Kristen; two daughters, Debra and Lorraine; brother, Arone; five grandchildren, Kyle, Destiney, Drew, Cameron, Brenden; close family members, Sharon, Bobby, Cynthia, and Howard; several nieces and nephews; the loyal family dogs, Sinatra and Buddy; and many friends.
