DARLENE LaBREE Darlene LaBree, age 78, a 19-year resident of Bullhead City, passed away after an extended illness on Friday, March 25, 2011, at her home in Bullhead City, Ariz. She was born in California, and graduated from Vista High School in San Diego County. After graduation, Mrs. LaBree married her lifelong companion, Frank. In 1976, Cal-Duct Inc., located in Bloomington, Calif., was started by Frank. Darlene was active in the operation of their family business until 2006. Darlene always participated in her daughters lives as they grew up in Woodland Hills, Calif. She loved sewing, crafts, and for many years she collected dolls -- many of which she made. In 1992, after many years of waterskiing trips to the Colorado River, the LaBrees relocated to Bullhead City. While residing in Bullhead City, she was active in civic affairs, and she was a member of numerous local community organizations. Darlene loved the casinos in Laughlin, and was a regular until her illness in November of 2010. After 56 years of marriage, Frank passed away in August of 2006. Darlene is survived by her three daughters, Barbara Pearson of Auberry, Calif., Roxanne McWilliams of West Hills, Calif., and Tracy Spreier of Temecula, Calif; four grandchildren, Shannon, Heather, Nicole, and Jenna; and three great- grandchildren, Dominick, Arianna, and Taylor. The family is thankful for the friendship, love, and care provided by Donna Payne over the last two years of their Mother’s life. Appreciation also goes to Hospice of Havasu for their wonderful support and care. There will be no services. EUGENE “HONDA GENE” DEMAIO Eugene “Honda Gene” DeMaio, age 90, a 31-year resident of Bullhead City, died Thursday, March 17, 2011, in Bullhead City, Ariz. Gene, a telephone repairman for 36 years, was born August 2, 1920, in Jeannette, Pa. In WWII, he was a Navy Seaman, First Class, for three years. After retirement, he enjoyed fishing, RV’ing, and playing Texas Hold ’em at the Riverside Resort. He was member of the Telephone Pioneers. Gene was preceded in death by his brother, Anthony, and sister, Eleanor. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joan; three sons, Randall (Jan), Gary, Rudy; daughter, Pamela (Larry) Faulkner of Calif.; Joan’s daughter, Susan; brother, Vincent (Ethel); two sisters, Adeline and Vivian; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. I would like to give special recognition to Susan, who was a great help in Gene’s care, and also thank all the wonderful people associated with Hospice of Havasu for their compassion and help during a very difficult time. Services will be held 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, April 2, 2011, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 3055 El Mirage Way, Laughlin, Nev. Father Charles Urick will officiate. Francis John Scheuring (Frank, Buddy, Pancho) 87, died on April 2, 2011. Frank was born near Beresford, SD on March 28, 1924 and moved to Higginsville, Missouri with his parents in 1929. He joined the, on his 18th birthday in 1942 and trained with the parachute infantry at Alliance, Nebraska. He was selected for pilot training in the Army Air Force and trained on several aircraft during the duration of the war. He joined the newly formed Air Force in 1948. By 1951 he was selected to specialize in air traffic control. He spent his Air Force career serving as commander of a succession of air traffic control squadrons and simultaneously maintained flight status. During the course of his military service he earned his BS and MS degrees in Finance. He retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1968 and moved to Tucson with his family. By 1969 he joined the planning institute which prepared the launch of Pima Community College. He was responsible for planning the initial business sector curriculum. He was a member of the PCC Founding Faculty and served on the teaching staff of Pima College until retirement in 1987. He is survived by one brother, Victor (Ruth). Beloved husband, he is preceded in death by his wife of 17 years, Berniece Deaver Scheuring and is survived by his wife of 48 years, Frances "Fran" Scheuring. Beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he is survived by sons, John (Meg), Douglas (Chantel), Edward and Jerome (Sylvia) and daughters, Cecilia Nemmers, Barbara Homan (Mark), Julianne Fitzpatrick, Caroline Moore (Earl), Anita Winikka and Virginia Wogan (Robert); 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was a kind and gentle man. Visitation 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. LARRY DEAN HENDRICKSON Larry Dean Hendrickson, age 60, a 22-year resident of the Tri-state Area, and formerly of Crookston, Minn., died Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at WARMC in Bullhead City, Ariz. Larry was born in Detroit Lakes, Minn., on May 28, 1950, to Arne and Edith (Mikulecky) Hendrickson. Larry attended elementary school in Waubun, Minn. and Mapleton, N. D., and in 1968, he graduated from Central High School in Crookston, Minn. Larry remained a resident of Bullhead City until eventually moving across the river to Laughlin, Nev. for the remainder of his years while working as a bartender at the former Ramada Express, now the Tropicana. Larry was well-liked and respected by those he met along life’s road. A gentle man with a great love and devotion to family, his music, and his daughters who put a sparkle in his eye. He will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved him. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Arne Hendrickson. Larry is survived by his two daughters, Heather (John) Lieber of Kansas City, Missouri, and Taylor of Laughlin, Nev; his mother, Edith Hendrickson of Crookston, Minn.; two sisters, Linda Havir of Minnetonka, Minn. and Cheryl (Larry) Froehlich of Crookston; three brothers, Dale (Joyce) Hendrickson of St. Michael, Minn., Miles (Teresa) Hendrickson of Bagley, Minn., and Kevin Hendrickson of Crookston; his grandparents; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. A memorial will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Monday April 4, 2011, in Room 285 in the Hospitality Suite of the Tropicanna Hotel and Casino in Laughlin, Nev. MCMILLAN, Lila Joann, 79, passed away February 13, 2011 at TMC Hospice, Tucson, Arizona. She was born August 15, 1931 to Raymond and Cora Etta (Studer) McMillan at the family farm near Randall, Kansas. She was baptized at an early age into the Vicksburg Baptist Church near Randall, Kansas. Joann graduated from Randall High School in 1949. She attended Emporia State Teachers College and Wichita State University, graduating in 1960. She taught school at Belleville Junior High School, Belleville, Kansas; rural school at Prairie Gym near Jamestown, Kansas; a Formoso, Kansas rural school; and Oatville near Wichita, Kansas. Joann was active in and loved playing sports most of her life. She played semi-pro basketball and was on a girls softball team while living in Wichita, Kansas. Moving to Tucson, Arizona in 1960, she taught in School District #1 for 18 years. Retiring from teaching in 1978 she became self-employed with arts and crafts, working with jewelry making and silver smithing, spending time teaching her crafts and attending craft fairs. She was a very people oriented person, never meeting a stranger. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Rachel Hancock and five brothers, Harold, Wilbur, Max, Richard and Ronald McMillan. She is survived by one brother, Kenneth McMillan of Vancouver, Washington and two sisters, Jean Trussell of Delphos, Kansas and Susan (Ed) Buer of rural Norway, Kansas; 22 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Joann chose to donate her body to the UOFA WILLED BODY PROGRAM for medical research. There will be no service interment of ashes will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the TMC Hospice, 5301 E. Grant Rd., Tucson, AZ 85712. |
Linda Sharon Martin beloved mother of Tamára McAllister passed away peacefully with her family by her side on April 1, 2011 at the age of 62. Linda was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Charles Martin. She is survived by her mother, Madeline Elliott; her brothers, Rick and Joe Elliott; her nephews, Ricky and Cody Elliott and her dog, Winnie. Linda was a devoted employee of Tucson Medical Center for over 30 years. She was a hippie at heart and a beach bum to the core. We will miss her more than words can express. Louis "Lou" Bighinatti died peacefully on April 1, 2011, after a lingering illness. He was born in Miami, FL on May 18, 1926, to Italian immigrant parents, Benvenuto and Margherita (Veronesi) Bighinatti. He was raised on a small farm in Middletown, CT. After serving in the, Air Force during, , he earned a degree in mechanical engineering at the Univ. of Hartford. He eventually moved to southern California, where he met and married his wife Pat. They had a beautiful daughter, Janelle, who was their pride and joy. The family resided in Los Angeles, Cincinnati, and Seattle. Lou and Pat moved to Tucson in 2003. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Patsy (Adams) and his 31 year-old daughter, Janelle of Seattle, WA. He is also survived by his brother, Ben of Covina, CA; sister, Ellen Murphy of Ormond Beach, FL; a number of nieces and nephews and first cousins in the U.S., Italy and South Africa. A Funeral Mass will be held in the chapel at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 5150 N. Valley View Rd., on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be at the Southern Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Sierra Vista. MAJOR DALE MARIOTT Major Dale Mariott, age 80, a 16-year resident of Bullhead City, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at his home in Bullhead City, Ariz. He was born October 8, 1930, in Paragould Ark., and was the youngest of nine children born to James and Margaret Mariott. After his graduation from Paragould High School in 1948, he earned an AA in Business Administration, and moved to Bakersfield, Calif. Major joined the Army for two years, and was stationed at Fort Meade, Md. After leaving the Army, Major worked for Hartford Insurance Company, eventually rising to the position of Regional Manager of the western states, based in Seattle, Wash.  After leaving The Hartford, he worked for California Insurance Group in Alameda, Calif. He married Fonda Lovene Liles of Light, Ark., in 1951, and they had two daughters, Jerri Mariott and Virginia Mariott-Cade. They divorced in 1993. In 1994, he met Ramona Bock, and she was his companion for 16 years. They moved to Bullhead City in 1995, and resided at Davis Camp. He is survived by his two daughters, Jerri Mariott and Virginia Mariott-Cade; three grandchildren, Cole Cade, Cassandra Cade, and David Silpa; and two sisters, Kitty Downey, and Peachy Evans. O'BRIEN, Virginia May Prescott, May 6, 1923 - April 3, 2011 Originally from Holly, MI., daughter of James C. Prescott and Hattie Elizabeth McDonald Prescott. Preceded in death by husband, Stanley R. O'Brien; daughters, Sharon L. Altamirano and Constance E. Valeriano. She is survived by daughters, Barbara J. Mangan and Nancy S. Cannito; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Virginia retired from the wholesale-retail business. She, together with Stanley, successfully owned and operated their businesses in Michigan and New York. Virginia excelled in management. She knew when to buy and when to sell. She and our father retired to Arizona in 1969. Virginia and Stanley will be together once again in a lovely grave site under a large pine tree. According to her wish no public services will be held at this time. Arrangements are by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY. |
