Adam Baxter Smith It is with great sadness that the family of Adam Baxter Smith announces his passing on April 22, 2011 in Tucson, Arizona after a brave battle against melanoma cancer. Born in El Paso, Texas on November 1961, he graduated from Coronado High School, and continued to UT Austin. Baxter worked for several major technology companies, and worked for EMC until his passing. He was a mentor and friend to each of his nieces and nephews, and never let a teachable moment pass. He was a friend to all that he met, enjoyed the mountains of Colorado, the desert wildflowers of Arizona, and a good cigar while staring at the stars on a clear night. A generous man and loving father and husband, he found great joy in the time he spent with his two sons, Chauncey and Walker. Survived by wife, Meg Swain; sons, Chauncey and Walker Smith; mother, Georgia Smith; brothers, "Tony" Smith (Sheila), Carter Smith (Michelle); sister, Shawn Blessing; six nieces and nephews, step-daughters, Courtney and Stephanie. Donations may be made to the Primavera Foundation Shelter in Tucson. "Be Happy, Learn, Tell the Truth, and Save" words to live by...Baxter Smith. We are thankful for the time we had with him, he will be remembered with love. JAMES H. DICKSON James H. Dickson, age 68, of Laughlin, Nev., passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2011, in Las Vegas, Nev. Jim was born in Burkburnett, Texas, on April 10, 1942. Jim worked at the Colorado Belle Casino in the Slots department for many years. After several years of retirement, he decided to go back to work. At the time of his death, he was working for the Golden Nugget where he made many new friends, and truly loved the feeling of being useful again. He was preceded in death by his father, Thurman Dickson, his mother, Eva Hart Dickson, and his wife, Jill Edge Dickson. Jim is survived by his companion, Sandy Hamblen of Laughlin, Nev.; sister, Jo Phillips of Spring, Texas; brother-in-law, Dennis Edge of Dallas, Texas; three nieces, Cay (Mike) Johnson of Pearland, Texas, Lynne Hormick of Spring, Texas, and Ginger (Mark) Dann of Dallas, Texas; nephew, Mike Edge of Ft. Worth, Texas; two great-nieces, four great-nephews, two great-great-nieces, and one great-great-nephew, all residing in Texas; and six adopted grandchildren. Jim is now with God in Heaven but he will be truly missed by all the many hearts he has touched. SWEENEY, Joseph D., August 5, 1944 - April 2, 2011. Joseph has lived in Tucson since 1957. He graduated from Salpointe High and the University of Arizona. He never married so he had more time to be an exceptional uncle to his four nephews and one niece, a loyal brother to his two sisters, and a devoted son to his mother whom we lost in 1997. Joseph will be especially missed on Holidays which will not be the same without his unique gifts and his intrepid visits in his old Subaru that he drove at least 600,000 miles crossing his beloved country. Joseph was very passionate about politics and injustice. Instead of just complaining, he tried constantly to solve the problems in our society. He continually ran for public offices, mostly as representative to the US Congress. He started his own law school in order to help many individuals who were disadvantaged and abused by the system and circumstances. He loved the law and was very vocal about injustices. Joseph was laid to rest in East Lawn Cemetery, Tucson. There will be a special Memorial Mass at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Saint's Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 1946 E. He enjoyed four-wheel driving, ocean and fresh water fishing, sailing, and skeet shooting. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. TATMAN, Marojean (Kline), went home to be with the Lord on April 23, 2011. Marojean was born on September 11, 1923, to George and Clarabelle Kline. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 53 years, Leland Tatman, on July 28, 1995. Marojean is survived by her son, Donovan (Terry) and grandsons, Joshua and Kyle Tatman. She was a charter member of Monte Vista Christian Union Church where she served faithfully for over 50 years. As an accomplished musician, vocalist and songwriter, Marojean had a passion for her savior and gospel music. This was exhibited at the early age of two, when she played her first song on the piano, "Nearer My God to Thee." As a young person, she traveled extensively with her family musical group, The Kline Family. In 1968, she founded the Tucson Messengers country gospel group. One of her numerous published songs, "He Came to Me," was the title song on the 1998 International Christian Album of the Year, recorded by the Tucson Messengers. The Tucson Messengers continue this legacy, traveling, performing and recording. A "Celebration of Her Life" will take place at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Monte Vista Church, 1140 E. SHERIAN L. GARNER Sherian L. Garner, age 67, a 12-year resident of Fort Mohave, died Monday, April 18, 2011, in Fort Mohave, Ariz. She was born on October 12, 1943, in Pasadena, Calif. Sherian is survived by her husband of 45 years, John; son, Greg (Jenifer) Garner and his children, Greer and Trevor; and daughter, Teresa and her children, Emily and Samantha. Scott Whipple Williams born March 12, 1952, died April 26, 2011. He was a lifelong resident of Tucson. He worked for the Amphi School District as a groundskeeper at Cross Middle School. He previously worked for Zonge Engineering as a field technician. He graduated from Catalina High School in 1969 and attended the U of Arizona for two years. He is survived by Robert Williams of Northville, Michigan, Michael McCoy of Phoenix, Margaret Holloway of Mesa and Amanda Place of Tucson. Suzanne Elizabeth Pottenger Ofenloch passed away suddenly on April 25, 2011. She is survived by her husband, Bernard Ofenloch of Tucson, AZ; her mother, Beverly Pottenger; brothers, William and Warren Pottenger; sister, Peggy Pottenger and nephew, Justin Pottenger. A former runner-up for Miss USA. Susie was a loving wife and a beautiful person inwardly and outwardly. Her love of people and nature knew no boundaries and words cannot express how much she will be missed. Before her affliction limited her endeavors, she was a passionate jeweler and worked to fulfill the requirements of receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Humanities from ASU. TERRY THACKER Terry Thacker, age 66, a 40-year resident of the Topock/Bullhead City area, passed away Friday, April 22, 2011, in Bullhead City, Ariz., after losing her battle with COPD. Terry, a realtor, was born November 16, 1944, in California, and she was the oldest of nine brothers and sisters. She enjoyed fishing, playing pool, and horse back riding. She was a beautiful person inside and out and will truly be missed. Love you! Terry was preceded in death by her daughter, Tracie Thacker, as well as her mother, father, and two brothers. THERESA M. SCHMIDT Theresa M. Schmidt, age 74, a 20-year resident of Bullhead City, Ariz., died Monday, April 18, 2011, in Lansdale, Pennsylvania. Theresa was born April 6, 1937, in Philadelphia, Pa. She worked for the River Palms for 15 years and also the Bullhead City Elementary School District. She was preceded in death by her husband, John O. Schmidt; parents, Margaret and Francis; and two brothers, Thomas and Ron Mann. Theresa is survived by four daughters, Colleen (Tom) Poulson from Lansdale, Pa., Kelly Ann Parker from Santee, Calif., Maureen (Quint) Ullrich from Tarzana, Calif. and Heather Schmidt from Bullhead City; three brothers and one sister; seven grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 6, 2011, at Spirit Life Church, 2850 Silver Creek Road, Bullhead City, Pastor Tim Odom will officiate. A luncheon will follow at 11:00 a.m. at El Palacio of Bullhead Mexican Restaurant, Inc., 1885 Hwy. 95, Bullhead City. Thomas L. Flanigan 2/25/1939 - 4/26/2011 Tom passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends at Casa de la Luz in Tucson. Tom was known in his community by his acts of service to both his church and the neighborhood in which he lived.
