Charles Wayne Elledge beloved husband, father and grandfather passed suddenly, but peacefully after a very brief bout of pneumonia on Sunday, May 15, 2011. Known by all as Wayne, he was born to Charles Dillingham Elledge and Eula Gale in Franklin, AZ on July 27, 1927. Raised in the small town of Coolidge, Arizona as a child of the depression Wayne learned to appreciate hard work and education, even giving up his spot on the U of A basketball team as it was getting in the way of his engineering studies. An engineer by trade, he spent many years working for El Paso Natural Gas in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. Working for North American Aviation he also helped to design the landing gear used on some of the first mock fighter jets. He has four children from previous marriages. In 1974, Wayne married Betty Lee Young. They had a daughter and remained married to the present day. Wayne was a Renaissance Man. He excelled as an engineer, an accomplished architect, home builder, historian, chef and gardener. Not only could he grow grass on a bowling ball, but he could teach others how to do it as well. He was a masterful teacher. Even in retirement Wayne couldn't live comfortably without a work assignment, whether it be serving a church welfare mission, or various engineering contracts. His mind was keen, and he continued to read and learn, especially into his later years. Despite the personal tragedies of his life, Wayne stood as a pillar of strength and provided an example to all those around him. He espoused the virtues of work, the importance of family, and he did it all with a touch of compassion that brought others to learn from him. He was a favorite of his grandchildren with his stories about his own childhood, his family history, and the prospector and his mule Jenny stories that he created himself. He held a deep love for his Savior, Jesus Christ, and spoke and acted powerfully in representing his message to his fellowman. He will be missed dearly, but his legacy and work will remain through generations. Wayne is survived by his wife, Betty Young Elledge. He had five children, Charles (Kathy), Mark (Barbara), Susan (Tim) Shaw, Megan (Fred) Hall and Jennifer (Trent) Humphries. Additionally he had three stepchildren whom he loved dearly: Mark (Deb) Oropeza, Bob (Marcie) Oropeza and Nicki DiCampli. He currently counts 26 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren as part of his increasing legacy. The Funeral will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the LDS Tucson North Stake building at 939 W. Chapala Drive. The Viewing will be held at 9:00 a.m., prior to the Funeral. Wayne will be interred at the LDS Binghampton Cemetery at 4001 N. Alvernon Way. Arrangements entrusted to ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel (742-7901). |

DANNY R. JOHNSON Danny R. Johnson, age 70, died May 7, 2011, in Bullhead City, Ariz. Danny was born June 16, 1940, in Jonesboro, Ark., to James Hill Johnson and Betty Henry. He married Martha Ann Dupree Royall, on Sept. 23, 1967, in Torrance, Calif. After living in Garden Grove, Calif. for 25+ years, he retired to Ft. Mohave, Ariz., 5-1Ž2 years ago. He retired from Reynolds Metals Can Plant in Torrance, Calif., with 30 years of service. He enjoyed playing craps, watching baseball and was an avid BBQ’er. Danny’s eyes always twinkled with the mention of his grandchildren, Robert, Justene, Nickalis, John Jr. and greatgrandson, Liam. He adored and loved his wife, Martha, AKA his personal nurse. DARRYL EDWARD THOMPSON Darryl Edward Thompson, age 56, a 4-year resident of Bullhead City, Ariz., passed away May 2, 2011, in Scottsdale, Ariz., under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the Valley. He was born January 6, 1955, in Indianapolis, Ind. He married Sonja Barker on February 16, 1974, in Indianapolis. Darryl worked in the aviation industry for 34 years, and was recently named Arizona Airport Executive of the Year by the Arizona Airports Association. He served as Assistant Airport Director at Laughlin/Bullhead International Airport from March of 2007 until his passing. He will be sadly missed by his family as well as his friends. His family will carry his memory in their hearts as a loving and faithful husband, and kind and compassionate father, who lived life to the fullest. Darryl is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Sonja; his son, Chad (Jennifer) Thompson; and daughter, Sarah Thompson. In honor of Darryl’s wishes, a private burial service was held at Floral Park Cemetery, in Indianapolis. Memorial donations may be given in Darryl’s name to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Elisabetta "Betty" Pierazzo passed away at her home in Tucson, Arizona on May 15, 2011. She was taken from us far too soon at age 47. Betty was a Senior Scientist at the Planetary Science Institute in Tucson. She was an expert in the area of impact modeling and on the astrobiological and environmental effects of impacts on Earth and Mars. She was also an expert on Meteor Crater in Arizona and made several appearances on national and international broadcasts of programs including National Geographic specials. In addition to her science, Betty passionately promoted science education and public outreach. She took time away from her successful research career to teach classes in astrobiology and science at the University of Arizona, she developed interactive websites and impact rock and meteorite kits for classroom use, and created professional development workshops for elementary and middle-school science teachers. Betty arrived in the United States in 1989 from Italy and the following year attended graduate school at the Department of Planetary Sciences at the University of Arizona. She handled the difficulties of living in a foreign country by opening her house and her kitchen to others. She received her Ph.D. in 1997, and the quality of her graduate work was recognized by the University of Arizona with the Gerard P. Kuiper Memorial Award. She was cherished by very many people for her staunch friendship and support. She inspired countless people as a colleague, teacher, mentor and friend. Her loss is great to all those who knew her and worked with her. She is survived by her husband, Keith Powell from Tucson, AZ; her mother, Maria Scattolin and her brother, Flavio Pierazzo both from Noale, Italy. A Viewing will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at EVERGREEN MORTUARY, 3015 North Oracle Road. MORRIS, Garyof Gilbert died unexpectedly of coronary artery disease at the age of 56 on May 1, 2010. A Memorial service and burial took place at Queen of Heaven Mortuary in Mesa on May 6, 2010. He lived most of his life in Gilbert, Mesa, and Tempe. Gary was born in Brockton, MA, lived in Rockland, MA, and moved to Arizona in August 1961 at the age of eight with his family. He graduated from Moon Valley High School in northwest Phoenix in 1971 and moved to Tempe in 1972. Gary was close to his family all his life. With his parents Conrad C. Morris deceased September 29, 1993 and his mother, Mary, he co-owned and managed a Baskin-Robbins ice cream franchise at University Drive and Alma School Road in Mesa from 1973 to 1978. He was employed at the former Motorola Semiconductor Plant in Tempe as a manufacturing support technician from April 1976 to May 2001.Gary loved cars, boating on local Phoenix area lakes, vacations in San Diego, the Midwest, and Florida, and decorating and maintaining the home he had shared with his former wife, Carol Kemmer, and daughter, Lisa, in Gilbert. JAMES K. HAMPTON II James K Hampton II, age 42, a 7-year resident of Fort Mohave, Ariz. passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2011, in Fort Mohave, Ariz. James was a great all around guy, James made several significant career contributions in his short life. He graduated from North Brunswick Township High School in North Brunswick, New Jersey. James worked as a Mortgage Loan Officer and Closer while acting as a licensed Real Estate Salesperson and Notary. He also graduated from Northern Arizona Regional Training Academy, third in his class with a 4.0 average. James was employed by Mohave County Sheriff’s Office for several years as a Deputy Field Training Officer and was recognized for his investigative abilities. He was the Marketing Manager/ Co-owner of Hampton Family Insurance and Financial Services in Fort Mohave. He enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, barbequing, jamming on the guitar, fixing up his 1967 Camaro, updating his "Steelers Shrine," entertaining friends and family, and spending quiet time painting his daughters’ nails. James was always the one anyone could call on to help out in "any way and at any time." He will be greatly missed. James is survived by his wife of 11 years, Kristina L. Hampton; two daughters, Abby and Megan Hampton; son, Joseph Spennato; mother, Virginia M. Hampton; sister, Monique (Greg) Hampton Lennon; mother-in-law, Mary Lou Stephens; father-in-law, Robert Stephens; brother-in laws, Tim D’Amelio and Anthony (Kate) D’Amelio; and nephew, Blaze Lennon. James has extensive family in North America and Croatia. He will be remembered by an abundance of close friends. KATHY CORTI-SMITH Kathy Corti-Smith passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2011, in Mohave Valley, Ariz. For over 30 years, Kathy worked in the medical field in the tri-state area as a nurse, casemanager and CNO. Kathy was a kind woman who was always willing to help others, a true caregiver. She will be greatly missed, but is forever in our hearts. Kathy is survived by husband, William Smith; two daughters, Lisa Jacquez Alcantara and Tina Jacquez Reeves; two grandchildren, Austin Reeves and Kaitlynn Reeves; parents, Mario and Eileen Corti; five brothers; three sisters; and her beloved Chihuahuas. Margaret "Peggy" Weidler 7/29/1928 - 5/16/2011 Peggy's life was richly blessed. She was looking forward to celebrating her favorite holiday and 65th wedding anniversary on Thanksgiving Day, 2011 with her devoted husband, Duane. Peggy graduated from Andrews School for Girls in Willoughby, OH, and was a life member of the, Ladies Auxiliary. While raising her family, she worked as a waitress, Tupperware Manager, and Resident Manager of Oxford Homes, Inc. She will be remembered for her magnificent crochet work. Although she was legally blind, she loved playing along with TV game shows, listening to ML baseball, and AZ Wildcats games. Her greatest pride and joy came from her children: Bill (deceased), Glenda (Mike), Jack (Cindy), Nancy (Dale), Tom (Pam); her grandchildren, Lisa, Lori, Sarah (Eric), Ryan, Aaron, Jessica, Doug (Ashley), Tessa (Josten) and Paige and her great-grandchildren, Teryn, Logan, Tyler and Nicholas. Mary Kathleen Ingersoll died peacefully of natural causes on May 13, 2011. She was born in Yonkers, New York on October 15, 1923. Mary worked as an executive secretary in the insurance industry in New York before marrying Robert Ingersoll in 1966. For the next 45 years, she lived a life that reflected a passion and love of the city of Tucson, it's people and it's natural beauty. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Bob; her parents, Roy and Mary; her brother, Roy and her nephew, Francis. She was a kind and wonderful aunt and a loyal and loving friend to all who knew her. PETER ALDEN ADAMS Peter Alden Adams, age 74, a 43-year resident of Antelope Valley, Calif., died Saturday, May 14, 2011, in Bullhead City, Ariz., of natural causes. Peter was born on August 21, 1936, in Hanover, N.H. He graduated from Avon Old Farms School in 1954, and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he served as an aircraft electrician in the Marines from 1954 until 1964. Upon leaving the Marines, Peter worked as an aircraft electrician for several aircraft companies over the next 24 years, working on many aircraft including the Lockheed L-1011 and SR-71, the Rockwell B-1A Bomber and the Space Shuttle, and worked his way from a production line electrician to Manufacturing Supervisor. Peter was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the National Rifle Association, the Loyal Order of the Moose, and the United States Bowling Congress. Peter is survived by his companion and love, Eunice Moussette of Palmdale, Calif.; his son, Timothy A. Adams of Chesapeake, Va.; his daughter, Kelly Moiser of Bakersfield, Calif., a step-daughter and step-son; eight granddaughters; and six great-grandchildren A viewing will be held from 7:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2011, and from 9:00 a.m. to 10 a.m., on Friday, May 20, 2011, at Dimond & Sons Silver Bell Chapel, 2620 Silver Creek Rd., Bullhead City. WATSON, Ryan Eldon 36, peacefully departed this life on April 26, 2011 in Mesa, Arizona, surrounded by his devoted family and friends, and by the boundless love of scores of those who gathered from all over the state and country to support him. Born October 16, 1974 in Mesa, to Richard Watson Gilda and Jane Lopez Rene, Ryan grew up in Mesa along with his siblings, Travis Watson, Beth Kelly Nick, and Jeffrey Watson Amadea, graduating from Mountain View High School in 1993. He later lived and worked in Phoenix, as an auditor with AIG. Ryan was blessed with insatiable intelligence, endless curiosity, wondrous imagination, and a unique, irreverent sense of humor. No person himself included, human foible, or political situation escaped his rapier wit, leaving us constantly laughing and shaking our heads. he loved the outdoors, hiking, exploring nearly every state, and especially enjoying the soothing beauty of the ocean. Ryan defined the word "friend" lived life fully, and loved his family and friends fiercely. He especially loved his nephews, Alex and Jack Kelly. In sharing Ryan's life and even his dying, he taught us how to live life generously, with humility, fun, compassion, devotion, integrity, courage, grace, and immeasurable love. Ryan, you set the bar high. We will honor you by doing our best to love life as you did, carrying our love for you in our hearts all our days. A memorial celebration to honor Ryan's life will be held at Stonecreek Golf Club, 4435 E. Paradise Village Parkway South, Phoenix, on Sunday, May 8th, from 5:00 - 8:00 Memorial at 6:00. Terry was born October 12, 1950 in Tremonton, Utah to Betty and Jerald Jensen. The second of 4 children, Terry was often looked to for his knowledge, his advice, and his wise perspective. Terry graduated from Bonneville High School in 1968 and was married to the love of his life, Cathy East Jensen on Valentine's Day in 1969. After 2 short years, the couple welcomed their son, Striker into the world; and, in 1974 welcomed a second son, Skip, to their family., Drawn by the warm weather, Terry and Cathy moved to Yuma, Arizona in 1994. Terry had an infectious laugh and a quick sense of humor that could light up a room. His heart was pure gold, and he lived his life making everyone around him happy. He had an incredible sense of humor and could crack a joke on cue. Terry could see the good in anyone, and brought out the best in everyone. |
