DANNY R. JOHNSON Danny R. Johnson, age 70, died May 7, 2011, in Bullhead City, Ariz. Danny was born June 16, 1940, in Jonesboro, Ark., to James Hill Johnson and Betty Henry. He married Martha Ann Dupree Royall, on Sept. 23, 1967, in Torrance, Calif. After living in Garden Grove, Calif. for 25+ years, he retired to Ft. Mohave, Ariz., 5-1Ž2 years ago. He retired from Reynolds Metals Can Plant in Torrance, Calif., with 30 years of service. He enjoyed playing craps, watching baseball and was an avid BBQ’er. Danny’s eyes always twinkled with the mention of his grandchildren, Robert, Justene, Nickalis, John Jr. and greatgrandson, Liam. He adored and loved his wife, Martha, AKA his personal nurse. They had two daughters, Vivian Darlene and Jammie, whom Danny loved very much. He was proud to be part of the Royall Clan. Danny and his BBQ Ribs will be missed! Danny was preceded in death by his daughter Jammie; parents, James and Betty; three brothers, Eddie, Bobby and Donald; sister, Nancy; and granddaughter, Justene. He is survived by his wife, Martha; child, Vivian Darlene (John) of Powers, Calif; brother, Jimmy Johnson, of Hanford, Calif.; three grandchildren, Robert, Nickals, and John, Jr; and greatgrandson, Liam. DARRYL EDWARD THOMPSON Darryl Edward Thompson, age 56, a 4-year resident of Bullhead City, Ariz., passed away May 2, 2011, in Scottsdale, Ariz., under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the Valley. He was born January 6, 1955, in Indianapolis, Ind. He married Sonja Barker on February 16, 1974, in Indianapolis. Darryl worked in the aviation industry for 34 years, and was recently named Arizona Airport Executive of the Year by the Arizona Airports Association. He served as Assistant Airport Director at Laughlin/Bullhead International Airport from March of 2007 until his passing. He will be sadly missed by his family as well as his friends. His family will carry his memory in their hearts as a loving and faithful husband, and kind and compassionate father, who lived life to the fullest. Darryl is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Sonja; his son, Chad (Jennifer) Thompson; and daughter, Sarah Thompson. In honor of Darryl’s wishes, a private burial service was held at Floral Park Cemetery, in Indianapolis. Memorial donations may be given in Darryl’s name to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. DERWIN LEE SELF Derwin Lee Self, age 60, a 15-year resident of Mohave Valley, Ariz. passed away suddenly and unexpectedly Friday, May 6, 2011, in Fort Mohave, Ariz. He was born April 1, 1951 in Los Angeles, Calif. to Floyd and Anastasia Natalie Self. Derwin was a Burlington Northern Sante Fe Locomotive Engineer for the past 30 years while working out of the Needles, Calif. terminal running the trains between Needles and Winslow for the past 15 years. He served as President of the local Brotherhood of Local Engineers chapter in Needles for the past several years, and was a household name here in the area for fixing anyone, and everyone’s, computer. Derwin was proud to have served in the Navy and loved to talk about his time in Greece and Puerto Rico and was enthusiastically planning his retirement to the island of St. Croix in the Virgin Islands. He had such an enthusiasm for life and interests in anything and everything that it’s impossible to list how many people’s lives he has touched in so many different ways. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, William, and his parents Floyd and Natalie Self. Derwin is survived by his wife of 26 years, Joanne; three sons, Douglas and Daniel Self of Mohave Valley, Ariz., and William Rose of Needles, Calif.; two daughters, Rhyannon Rose, (currently stationed at Kunsan AFB in Korea), and Poppy (Lee) Perfect of Oak Hills, Calif.; two grandchildren Brooke and Ashton Perfect of Oak Hills Calif.; two cousins, Al and Tari Malon of Ooltawah, Tenn.; and the many members of his extended family. MORRIS, Garyof Gilbert died unexpectedly of coronary artery disease at the age of 56 on May 1, 2010. A Memorial service and burial took place at Queen of Heaven Mortuary in Mesa on May 6, 2010. He lived most of his life in Gilbert, Mesa, and Tempe. Gary was born in Brockton, MA, lived in Rockland, MA, and moved to Arizona in August 1961 at the age of eight with his family. He graduated from Moon Valley High School in northwest Phoenix in 1971 and moved to Tempe in 1972. Gary was close to his family all his life. With his parents Conrad C. Morris deceased September 29, 1993 and his mother, Mary, he co-owned and managed a Baskin-Robbins ice cream franchise at University Drive and Alma School Road in Mesa from 1973 to 1978. KATHY CORTI-SMITH Kathy Corti-Smith passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2011, in Mohave Valley, Ariz. For over 30 years, Kathy worked in the medical field in the tri-state area as a nurse, casemanager and CNO. Kathy was a kind woman who was always willing to help others, a true caregiver. She will be greatly missed, but is forever in our hearts. Kathy is survived by husband, William Smith; two daughters, Lisa Jacquez Alcantara and Tina Jacquez Reeves; two grandchildren, Austin Reeves and Kaitlynn Reeves; parents, Mario and Eileen Corti; five brothers; three sisters; and her beloved Chihuahuas. Karole Gebelle 48, passed away peacefully after an extended illness May 14, 2011. She was preceded in death by her father Karl Kreutz. She is survived by her mother Patsy Kreutz; sons, Tony and Travis Gebelle, and husband, Randall Gebelle; brothers, Kerry (Linda) Kreutz, Kris (Ann) Kreutz and Kurt (Angie) Kreutz; in-laws, Jim and Judy Gray, David and Donna Gebelle; many nieces and nephews and many close friends. Karole graduated from CDO High School in 1980 and went on to work for the Postal Service. She loved being a mom and loved her boys with all of her heart. She was married for 25 years. She was an extremely caring and giving person who touched many lives. She enjoyed helping the homeless and donated her time to Casa De Los Ninos. She worked as an advocate for children in crisis. She loved people and made friends wherever she went. She had a strong relationship with Jesus and was deeply involved with her Church. The Funeral Service will be held Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at EVERGREEN MORTUARY. He served in World War II as a Navy Pilot. He was a pioneer in the self-service laundry business, opening his first laundry in Los Angeles in 1955. He owned and operated Riviera Laundry in Bullhead City and Valley Laundry & Dry Cleaners in Fort Mohave. He was truly a pioneer with the future always in mind. Mae graduated from Somerton Grammer School in 1931 and Yuma High School in 1935. She was an active member at Somerton Methodist Church, WSCS and Bible Studies. She enjoyed family vacations and reunions each summer, the weekends boating on the river for so many years. Her famous "chocolate chip cookies" were always requested by all. Her family was always the center of her life, she always found the sunshine in everyday and everyone, never found a fault in anyone., Her recollections of Somerton and its people, families, events and history will be missed. Her recounts of growing up on the farm, her work at the Yuma County Hospital before her marriage, the depression era stories of Somerton, her years of "hard-time" work at the Imperial Hardware in Somerton, her recollections of our family history and events are now silent, but not forgotten., Now she is part of our beloved memories and her legacy will continue through her family and friends., Mae is survived by her sisters, Marjorie Babcock, Millie (Les) Tanner, Maxine Gallagher; sons, Norman (Terice), Neal (Muriel), Ned (Kathy); eight grandchildren, Leslie (Erik) Maki, Alex, Moraya (Brain) Rediker, Christopher, Bryan, Julie (Jake) Bowden, Kimberly, Deborah and five great-grandchildren, Sydney, Chloe, Abby, Alexis and Melanie and brother-in-law, Keifer (Grace) Shipp. |
Marie (Cota-Robles) Nantz passed away peacefully in Tustin, California on March 28, 2011. She was 101 years old at her passing, and had resided in California for more than 50 years. Nina Marie was born in Cananea, Sonora on July 6, 1909. She immigrated to Tucson with her parents and three siblings in 1916, and grew up in Tucson. She was a volunteer worker throughout WW II and served her entire working career with the US Government Services. Although she leaves behind no children, as her only child Jerry passed away tragically at the age of 12, she treated her God-children with love and guidance as if they all were her own. She is survived by one sibling, Dr. Eugene Cota-Robles, now residing in Naperville, Illinois. She was also the loving sister of nine others, aunt to 26 and the great- and great-great aunt to numerous younger Cota-Robles'. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Holy Hope Cemetery Mausoleum. Internment of ash es will follow immediately. Arrangements by BLUE PACIFIC CREMATION & BURIAL. |

Ruth Kramer Schwartz passed away May 14, 2011, one day short of her 96th birthday after a long illness. She is survived by her son, R. Allan Kramer; Jean Holland, and grandchildren, Sophia Kramer, Joshua Kramer, and Joe Holland, as well as numerous relatives and her late brother, Jesse's; children, Doug, Don, Kathy (Koop), and Peg. Ruth was born in Jersey City, New Jersey May 15, 1915. She graduated New Jersey State Teachers College in 1936 and married David Kramer in 1937. In 1945 she relocated to Tucson, Arizona with her son, Al, five years, for Dave's health. While in Tucson, She moved her mother, Sophie Kuperman out from New Jersey to be with her. Ruth became involved in Hadassah and B'nai B'rith, and was an avid bowler. After Dave's death in 1979, Ruth got re-acquainted with an old flame, Phil Schwartz and they married in 1981 with Sophie's blessing. Sophie passed away in 1989 and in 1992 they moved to Del Rey Beach, Florida to be near some of Phil's relatives. In 1998, after Phil's death, Al moved Ruth to New Orleans to be close to him. She resided at Woldenberg Village for six years, and in 2004 upon Al's retirement, her son moved Ruth into his house to care for her. Ruth's last few months were spent in Canon Hospice. Born October 16, 1974 in Mesa, to Richard Watson Gilda and Jane Lopez Rene, Ryan grew up in Mesa along with his siblings, Travis Watson, Beth Kelly Nick, and Jeffrey Watson Amadea, graduating from Mountain View High School in 1993. He later lived and worked in Phoenix, as an auditor with AIG. Ryan was blessed with insatiable intelligence, endless curiosity, wondrous imagination, and a unique, irreverent sense of humor. No person himself included, human foible, or political situation escaped his rapier wit, leaving us constantly laughing and shaking our heads. he loved the outdoors, hiking, exploring nearly every state, and especially enjoying the soothing beauty of the ocean. Ryan defined the word "friend" lived life fully, and loved his family and friends fiercely. He especially loved his nephews, Alex and Jack Kelly. In sharing Ryan's life and even his dying, he taught us how to live life generously, with humility, fun, compassion, devotion, integrity, courage, grace, and immeasurable love. Ryan, you set the bar high. We will honor you by doing our best to love life as you did, carrying our love for you in our hearts all our days. A memorial celebration to honor Ryan's life will be held at Stonecreek Golf Club, 4435 E. Paradise Village Parkway South, Phoenix, on Sunday, May 8th, from 5:00 - 8:00 Memorial at 6:00. Donations in Ryan's name may be made to Hospice of the Valley, and or to the University of Arizona Foundadtion/Arizona Cancer Center.
