Peter Tomola

Peter Tomola Born Pietro Tomola on August 17, 1921, in Pieve di Vergonte, Italy, departed this life on April 20, 2011 following a debilitating illness. Peter, age five, with his mother, Catarina, immigrated from Italy to Morenci, Arizona in 1926, reuniting with his father Enrico who had gone ahead to prepare a place for them. A year was spent in Mexico on their journey as they awaited paperwork to enter the U.S. Both mother and son learned Spanish on this stay in Mexico, which was handy in Morenci with its large immigrant population. They would later add English to their language accomplishments. The family had a bakery for many years in Morenci where Peter worked part-time. Years later, after graduation from Morenci High School, Pete began work for Phelps Dodge, Morenci. His work was interrupted by, . Pete served in the US, in WWII and was called up again for the, . Pete was a Master Sgt in both conflicts, serving often as a drill instructor. In peacetime, Pete worked for Phelps Dodge, and at a fairly young age became a mill foreman at the mine. He was the senior mill foreman at the Morenci mine for many years. Pete married widowed Mabel Ellen Kopplin in 1951 and together with his new family, including stepson, John Kopplin, moved to Safford, Arizona. He resided in Safford until health problems necessitated a relocation to Tucson, Arizona, near the Kopplins in 2009. Pete's focus, outside of work, was family. He was a dedicated husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather. He was a good friend and neighbor to many and will be sorely missed for his good counsel, camaraderie and sense of humor. A cup of coffee (or cold beer) with his buddy, Juan Rios, or tacos and pecan pie with the sisters and family was always fun. His nicknames with the grandchildren were "Hero" and "Friend for Life." Pete, an avid reader during his almost 90 years, could always be counted on as a source of timely information. Most of his library is being donated to Bear Canyon library in Tucson. Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Ellen and his parents, Enrico and Catarina. He is survived by his stepson, John Kopplin (Susana) of Tucson, as well as grandson, Justin Kopplin; granddaughter, Stephanie Kopplin; devoted sisters, Mary Layton (Charlie), Pat Savage, Anne Rupnow (Jim) and many wonderful nephews and nieces. Many thanks to the great staff at Fountain Court care facility in Tucson and the staff at TMC hospice in Tucson. Memorial pending. Arrangements by ABBEY FUNERAL CHAPEL.

Sue Eazer

Sue Eazer 81, went to be with her Lord on Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011. She passed away peacefully in her sleep in the place she most wanted to be, at her home and by her husband's side. She is survived by her loving husband, Ted and their five children, Ted II (Debra), David (Jackie), Gerry (Kim), Eve (Dwayne) and Susan, along with her nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Janice Gray and is preceded in death by her mother and father, Eva and George Higgins; her brother, Tommy and her sister, Alicia. Sue was born in Highland Park, Michigan on May 10, 1929. She lived with her family in Ferndale, Michigan and graduated from Lincoln High. Sue and Ted met in high school and renewed their relationship when Ted returned home from the Navy during World War II. The couple were married on April 10, 1948 in Ferndale, Michigan and moved to Tucson in 1956 where they raised their family. Sue's main treasure in life was her family. She was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She adored her children, along with each new grandchild and great- grandchild that came into the family. She was an award-winning home maker and loved every minute of it. She upholstered furniture, made beautiful curtains, pillows and bedding and wallpapered the walls of her family home with style. Sue was an incredible artisan. Her crafts included ceramics, elegant jewelry and beautiful porcelain dolls. She was very proud of her dolls which were on display at many doll shows and won numerous awards. She shared her talents and was a wonderful teacher of crafts. Some of her happiest moments were spent in her children's classrooms teaching ceramics and other crafts to the students. She also spent countless hours in her special workshop that Ted created for her in their home, where she shared her many talents with her family and friends. Sue's greatest love was her husband, Ted with whom she had just celebrated her 63rd wedding anniversary, two weeks prior to her death. She was often heard to say that he "was her world", and she was clearly his. Together they lovingly raised their family; shared precious times with many dear relatives and a large host of special friends. In the early 1980's, the couple purchased their first R.V. and joined the "Pace Arrow Roadrunners" a local motor home club. For the next 20 years they traveled across the country, many times with their kids and grandchildren, as well as attending dozens of rallies where they met many of their dearest friends and shared many wonderful adventures. Ted and Sue also shared a deep commitment to God and attended Immanuel Presbyterian Church for over 30 years. For many years their family battled many serious health problems and their faith in God and the support of the Church helped them through each tragedy. Sue was a fighter with boundless strength. In her final years, though her body had become frail and fragile, she still awoke each morning determined to face each day with a smile because for Sue it was another day she could share with her family and friends. Now, she is finally at peace, no longer burdened with pain, and with her Lord Jesus Christ. She has left all who knew her with many endearing memories and will be missed dearly by all. Sue's final resting place will be the Memorial Garden at Immanuel Presbyterian Church. Memorial Service to be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 9252 E. 22nd Street. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.
