Clifton E. Wilson

Clifton E. Wilson Clif Wilson died peacefully on March 12, 2011 having suffered a massive stroke. He was 91 years old. Clif cultivated a robust physical and mental life which stay with him throughout his productive years. He visited frequently with old friends and treasured his newest friendship with Judy Bowen of Green Valley. His travels continued to delight him as did visits to and from friends here and abroad. Clif enjoyed several career patterns. He spent a number of years working as a reporter in the northwest, but found his true love to be teaching. Clif received his Ph.D. from Minnesota in 1958 and finally found a home in the Department of Political Science teaching International Law. Look out Hugo Grotius. Clif was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Edith Wilson. He has many nieces and nephews who he joined every summer at family reunions. Dee Phillips has assumed a particular importance in his life. In 1947, Clif married Geneal Cowan, both Clif and Gene were endowed with a humanistic perspective on life and dedicated themselves to the efforts of the United Nations. Gene, who preceded Clif in death was the founder of the Tucson UNICEF store while Clif organized the Model UN Program at the UofA. Clif we are beholden to you for so much. Corinne Schroeder Kleespie

KLEESPIE, Corinne Schroeder, expert equestrian, world traveler, crack angler, master chef and baker, creative seamstress, mentor, PEO-AN member, born-again Democrat, diplomat, unequaled grandmother, world's best mom, daughter, mother-in-law, sister, and friend Corinne Schroeder Kleespie passed away on March 22, 2011 after a short illness. Though she had severe rheumatoid arthritis for 62 years, she was never handicapped. Born and raised on her parent's ranch outside of Rapid City, South Dakota on December 3, 1930, Corinne rode horseback with her older sister and best friend, Helen to the one-room schoolhouse through the eighth grade. She used those skills in the 1970's while traveling throughout the Middle East, by herself, to ride camels while touring the pyramids in Egypt. Corinne set up home, and welcomed all, on three continents while married to Dee Lee Kleespie, her loving husband of 57 years. She was the first female CPA hired by the Pima County School District. Knowing the value of education, she attended every single family graduation ceremony and read text books to blind college students while they lived in Africa. She schooled several doctors on how to treat arthritis and taught generations to sew while mending many a torn soul. She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne (Bocka); sons, Steve (Susan) and Tom. Adopted son, Machibya and many daughters and sons living in Africa. Sisters, Helen and Lois (Al); grandchildren, Aurora (Ross), Joanna (Mike), Anna Lacy (Aileen), Darius (Katri), Nick and Austin. She was deeply loved by the extended Lahr family from South Dakota. Special thanks to her caregivers for making the end as good as it could be. A celebration of Corinne's life will be held at Southside Presbyterian Church at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2011. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to Heifer International,, . Dr. John Henry Wray PhD. 11/9/1926 - 3/20/2011 passed away on the morning of Sunday, March 20, 2011. John was a beloved husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Dolores Wray; his children, Lisa and Greg and granddaughter, Michelle. He is a, Navy veteran that graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and served on six U.S. vessels in Southeast Asia. After leaving the Navy he worked with the United Nations and helped to set up the Physics Department at the University of Brasilia in South America. John also worked in La Jolla, California as a nuclear engineer and eventually retired teaching physics at the University of Costa Rica in Central America. The Viewing will be on Friday, March 25, 2011 at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. and the Service will be held on Monday, March 28, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Southern AZ Veterans Memorial Cemetery located at 1300 S. EDITH EVE REDFIELD Edith Eve Redfield, age 93, 22 year resident of Bullhead City, died Monday, January 7, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nev. Edith was born August 28, 1917 in Algiers, LA to Chief Petty Officer Thomas McRorie and Edith Watson McRorie. She attended Sacred Heart Parochial School, Jefferson Junior High and David Hickman High School in Columbia, Miss. as well as the St. Louis School of Fine Arts, Washington University in St. Louis, Miss. In her early years, she was a dress designer and then a tool designer. A pioneer among women, she became an electrical designer for a well known electrical engineering firm in the Southern California area. Projects included many Long Beach City buildings and churches, the Shoreline Village development and the Marina Pacifica Shopping Center. She belonged to the Illuminating Engineering Society and the International Association of Electrical Inspectors. Holder of a private pilot’s license, Edith belonged to the American Bonanza Society, the Skylarks, and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. Edith was a water color and batik artist, a signature member of the National Water Color Society and has had several works in the Long Beach Art Museum and the Las Vegas Art Museum. Edith received numerous awards and exhibited in many juried shows. Edith is named in "Who’s Who in Art" and "Women of the World Who’s Who"; she is published in two editions of Poetry Collections and was a member of the Famous Poet’s Society. Edith was a former member of the Los Coyotes Country Club in Buena Park, Calif. and of Chaparral Country Club and the CWGA in Bullhead City, Ariz. In recent years, she belonged to the Desert Daisies, the Senior Circle, the Happy Hatters, and a Birthday Luncheon Club. She was preceded in death by her sister, her parents, and husbands J. Earl Gummels in 1955, and Thomas W. Redfield in 1988. She is survived by three step-children, Dotti Schloss and Thomas Redfield of California, and Patty Behrends of Colorado; and two nieces, Mary Tolson of Texas and Paula Harlow of New Mexico and their families, which consist of numerous grandchildren, great nieces, and great nephews. Of her students, she cared most deeply for her niece, Rachel Beasley and her nephews, Eric Beasley, Scott and Kevin Ebert. To those who knew her well she was regarded as the definitive resource on questions of grammar, known widely as the "Grammar Sherriff." Her students addressed her affectionately as "Aunt Nanny." Graham Patton Wright

Graham Patton Wright age 95, passed away peacefully at home with family members on Friday, March 11, 2011. Graham was born on August 16, 1915 on a large, picturesque farm along the banks of the Little Harpeth River, Arrington, Montgomery County, Tennessee outside Nashville. He received his B.A. degree from the University of Tennessee (1938) and a M.A. degree from, (1939). During, (1941 to 1945), Graham proudly served our nation during five invasions as a U.S., Air Corp Flight Chief. His service included two invasions in North Africa, Salerno and Anzio, Sicily, and in southern France. At the end of WWII, he was flown to England aboard a C-47 that crash landed with no one injured. Graham returned stateside from England aboard the Europa, the largest German passenger ship captured during WWII. Once out to sea, the ship began listing and was endanger of capsizing while crossing the Atlantic to New York City. He stated that he was never so happy to see the Statue of Liberty as when he arrived in NYC to a hero's welcome with fireboats shooting sprays of water. As a young boy, Graham was active in the 4-H program raising chickens and the Boy Scouts Venturing program canoeing the Cumberland River. In 1945, he became the first, full-time Assistant County Agent with 4-H and Youth Development in Obion County, Tennessee. He also worked at the University of Arkansas, Little Rock (1949-1954) and was Program Leader at, Extension Center in Indianapolis, Indiana (1954). In December 1954, Graham Wright joined the University of Arizona faculty as State 4-H Leader. During his 18 year Arizona career, Wright was instrumental in establishing and developing the Arizona 4-H Youth Foundation (1970) as one of the earliest 4-H Foundations in the nation. From these efforts and those following, the Arizona 4-H Youth Foundation grew during its 40 years history, to currently serving over 142,000 4-H youth. Presently, Graham's son, Doug is the Vice President of the Arizona 4-H Youth Foundation. Graham introduced the 4-H program to a majority of the 21 federally recognized Arizona Native American tribes. He also implemented statewide 4-H Club Junior Leadership Training programs before retiring in June 1972 with 30 years of civil service. The legacy of Graham Wright's 4-H professional career was honored on October 8, 2010, in Silver Spring, Maryland, when he was inducted into the National 4-H Hall of Fame. Graham was from the Greatest Generation living a long, simple, fun-filled life devoted to his family and mentoring youth to let their own greatness shine. Graham is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn, with 64 years of marriage; by son, Douglas; daughter, Dr. Emily Vance, of Tucson and two grandchildren, Jason (Tucson) and Jessica (LaJolla) Vance along with his youngest surviving sister, Margaret "Putt" (Thomas R.) Cummings, (Nashville) and is predeceased by his sister, Mary Wright Lyle and parents, Suzie Mae and Graham C. Wright (of Nashville) and the recent October passing of his oldest sister, Susan M. Schoonvel and her surviving spouse, Col. John Schoonvel (Ret., of Greenville, NC). Graham loved the 4-H program and the belief that our nation's great strength is deeply rooted in the ethics of our forefathers. Graham lived the 4-H Pledge every day: " I Pledge my Head to clearer thinking, my Heart to greater loyalty, my Hands to larger service, and my Health to better living, for my club, my community, my country, and my world." Howard Morton Rosenfeld

Howard Morton Rosenfeld 12/14/1919 - 3/20/2011 Howard 91, passed away peacefully after a rich and interesting life. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jacqueline; his son, James Rosenfeld (Muriel) and his daughter, Laura Spiri (Jeff); his granddaughter, Mia Spiri and many loving nieces, nephews and family members also survive him. He was born in New York City to Arnold and Tillie Rosenfeld and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1940. He served in the, throughout, . After marrying Jacqueline Levy of the pioneer Levy family he moved to Tucson and was an integral part of Levy's Department Store. In 1972, with his brother, Sanford Rosenfeld he started a chain of successful retail clothing stores in Southern California called Hubbub. After retiring he resettled in Tucson, but true to his nature developed a third career in the precious metal recycling business. Howard's interests were far ranging. He was a voracious reader and enjoyed art, literature, theater, early jazz, politics and others to numerous to list. He learned to use the computer when he was 80 and even learned to bake. His great love was playing tennis, which he did up until several years ago. All who knew him will miss his sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his mother, Tillie and his father, Arnold, also his beloved brother, Sanford. Howard will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. A Memorial Service will be held at the chapel of EVERGREEN MORTUARY, 3015 N. Oracle Road at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 27, 2011. In lieu of flowers donations are encouraged to Planned Parenthood, Doctors Without Borders or a charity of ones' choice.

Julia "Jay" Luna Torrez passed away in Bisbee, Arizona on Friday, March 18, 2011 at the age of 95. She was born December 19, 1915, the daughter of Antonia E. and Jesus E. Luna in Guanajuato, Guanajuato, Mexico. Julia was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 72 years, Aurelio "Guero" Q. Torrez and sister, Juanita "Jenny" L. Campos. Family members left to miss her are her sons, John L. Torrez (Delia) and Raul L. Torrez (Elvia); daughters, Alma "Martha" Ruiz (Edmundo), Toni L Torrez, Teresa "Terri" Grencik (Stephen) and Rachel T. Acuna (George); 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Julia was raised in Clarkdale and Jerome. She graduated in 1935 from Jerome High School. She was once employed at Clarkdale Laundry but took great pride in being a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family and friends. A Rosary will be held Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Church in Bisbee. Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. Burial Services at Evergreen Cemetery are private. Karl, retired after 20 years as Chief Petty Officer from the Navy, worked for the San Diego City Water Company. Karl was a Mason and a private pilot instructor. Alice was a housewife and loved arts and crafts. They both enjoyed square dancing. Karl and Alice were preceded in death by their son, Karl August Most III. Received his B.S.B.A. in 1943, his M.S. in 1950 and became a CPA. During all this time his Military Duties from 1943 to 1946 in 16th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron. 6th Army Headquarters in San Francisco. He became an Assistant Professor followed by Associated Professor and Full Professor. He was head of Department of Accounting from 1959 - 1966. His Financial Accounting he enjoyed teaching. He received Bobcat Outstanding Faculty Award, Honorary Bobcat Award, U of A Creative Teaching Award. His Professional Organization, American Accounting Association, American Institute of C.P.A.'s, American Society of C.P.A.'s, Beta Alpha Psi (Organized local Chapter), Beta Gamma Sigma (Past President of local Chapter). He served on the University's Intercollegiate Athletics Committee from 1959 to 1980 and served as Faculty Athletic Representative from October 1968 to August 1980. Served as a member of the Western Athletic Conference Council from October 1968 to July 1978 (chairman in 1970 - b1971), and as a member of the Pac-10 Conference Council from July 1978 to August 1980. Served four years (1970 - 1973) as vice-president and member of Council of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Served as chairman of the NCAA Eligibility Committee from January 1975 to January 1978. (Member of Committee from January 1973 to January 1978.) Served as chairman of the NCAA Classification Committee from 1976 to 1980. Served as consultant to Fiesta Bowl Executive Committee, 1971n - 1977. Have served three two-year terms in the University of Arizona Faculty Senate. Have served on numerous University and College ad-hoc committees. member of Board of Directors of Arizona Alumni Association from June 1973 to June 1978. Inducted into University of Arizona Sports Hall of Fame, November 10, 1984. The Louis A. Myers' Professorship of Accounting, an endowed chair, established in September 1987.
