Armand Mattausch 90, died at home June 2, 2011 after a short illness. His wife, Eleanor "Ellie" survives him. They had been married 60 years. Armand was born August 10, 1920, in Cumberland, Wisc. The family moved to Zion, Ill., where Armand grew up. Armand and Ellie had three children, Susan Land of Show Low, Ariz., Gary Mattausch of Benson, Ariz. and Laura Creech of Shadyside, Md. There are two grandsons, Timothy and Nathaniel Creech of Shadyside. Armand enlisted in the, Air Corps (which became the Air Force) as a radar repairman during World War II. He was stationed in the Pacific. During his career as an electrical engineer he worked in Baltimore, Ft. Wayne, San Diego and Phoenix. He has lived in Oracle 13 years. HOMER L. JOHNS, JR. Homer L. Johns, Jr., age 87, a 25-year resident of Bullhead City, Ariz., entered into rest on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at the Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, Nev. Homer was the youngest child born to Homer Land and Eva Storey in Montgomery, Ala., on April 1, 1924. Homer had two older sisters, Janice and Marjorie. After high school graduation, he joined the Marine Corps for two years where he served in the Pacific area. In 1947, he married Blanche E. Rutherford and they lived in California, where they had three sons and two daughters. During this time, he worked for Republic Steel until his retirement. Homer then moved to Bullhead City, Ariz. In 1990, he married Mary Lou Coffman. They liked to travel, golf, dance ride horses and go to the Casinos. Homer was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Blanche in 1986; son, Alan in California on Dec. 21, 2010, and sister, Janice on Feb. 6, 2011. Homer is survived his by wife, of 21 years, Mary Lou Johns; two sons, Steven (whereabouts unknown), and Homer III (Jenny divorced); two daughters, Sandi (Rick), and Cindy (Pete); daughter-in-law, Candy; sister, Marjorie J. Hanks from Texas; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; two step-children; six step-grandchildren; and two step-great-granddaughters. Harriet Heenan Witesman, IFDA 10/19/1914 - 6/05/2011 Harriet was born in Minneapolis to Thomas and Anne Heenan. She graduated from the, in interior design and then earned a Masters degree in Engineering. She was an instructor at the university and later worked for the Department of the Navy. Married to Arthur Witesman, she journeyed to Europe at the end of WWII, where her daughter, Joanne was born in Vienna and Mary Alice was born in Munich. They later moved to Iran, Bermuda and finally to Tucson in 1961. Harriet designed and decorated homes all over the world. She was named a Fellow in the International Furnishings & Design Association (IFDA) in recognition of her professional achievements and civic involvement. She was a founding member of the Tucson Businesswomen's Association and a long time member of the American Society of Dowsers. She is survived by her daughters, Joanne Norton (Frederick), and Mary Alice Ebsen (Thomas); her grandsons, Matthew Norton (Melissa Ann), Thomas Norton (Gina), Scott Ebsen and great-granddaughter, Montana Avery Norton. She is also survived by the 24/7 caregivers who gave her love beyond measure - Luz, Elsa, Magdalena, Patricia and Elsita. JOHN SILVA LEIVAS John Silva Leivas, our loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend, departed from this Earth on Saturday, May 14, 2011, to join his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in Heaven. Johnny was born on August 21, 1948, in Parker, Ariz. He lived his life in Needles, Calif., where he attended the Needles schools, graduating from the Needles High School with the Class of 1968. After high school, Johnny served in the Armed Forces, and upon returning from his term in the military, he started his career with the Santa Fe Railroad, where he worked for 39-1/2 years. Johnny was an inspiration and a hero to us all! He was a devoted, loving husband and father to his children. Our hearts will always ache from our loss, and our love for him will endure forever. Johnny was preceded in death by his father, John Gonzales Leivas; mother, Lelia Silva Drew; brother, Ezekiel Leivas; and nana, Goya. Johnny is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Peggy; his three sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Allison Callaway, John and Zahira Leivas, and Richard and Aurelia Leivas; daughter and son-in-law, Kari and Derek Geiger; dad, Charles Drew; six sisters, Priscilla (Leivas) Hill, Esther (Leivas) Sepulveda, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Leivas, Rose (Zapata) Wall, Carla Drew and Amanda Barrera; and two brothers, Ruben Leivas and Billy Leivas. John Patrick Sweeney Loving Son, Brother, Husband, Father and Friend. John Patrick Sweeney, 51, of Loves Park, IL, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, June 3, 2011, after a brave battle with aggressive brain cancer. A twin, he was born April 20, 1960 in Tucson, AZ, where he attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and graduated from Amphitheater High School. He became a highly successful sales representative for Nabisco. He relocated to Illinois in 1997, where he excelled at his position with Millstone Coffee. John will be remembered for his sparkling Irish wit, enthusiasm, friendliness, nurturing spirit, and protectiveness. A true outdoors man, he loved gardening, golfing and fishing. A devoted family man, he is survived by his loving wife, Theresa; stepchildren, Rachel (Kyle Zitzke) and Karl Nelson; daughters, Merry Cate, Jeanne and Theresa Sweeney; sisters-in-law, Barbara Zegunis (Bill) and Marilyn Varcato; niece, Karen Schuster (Pete) and predeceased by in-laws, Robert and Stella Cipolla. Preceded in death by his father, M. Leonard Sweeney and sister, Peggy, he is also survived by his mother, Jeanne Sweeney. The ninth of 11 children, he is also survived by Pat Bezunartea (Mike Sweeney), Tempe, AZ, Leonard Sweeney (Mary), Glendale, AZ, Mary Duncan (Alex), Tucson, AZ, Kathy Sweeney, Los Angeles, CA, Tim Sweeney (Deborah), Tulsa, OK, Terry Powell (Stan), Las Vegas, NV, Erin Ruiz (Rene'), Reno, NV, his twin brother, Danny Sweeney (Tressy), Reno, NV, Chris Sweeney, Thoreau, NM. Laurie had a truly amazing soul and was taken from us in a tragic accident. Preceded in death by her parents Richard and Margaret Deibel. Her family was the most important thing to her in life. Her brother, Kurt was her best friend and companion. She loved her sister-in-law, Stephanie as her own sister. Her nieces, Amanda, Kristin, and Shelby, each had a close and special relationship with her, along with Kailey and Joshua, her great-niece and nephew. MARGUERITE “MARGE” HARRINGTON Marguerite Harrington, age 87, a 13-year resident of Bullhead City, completed her journey June 5, 2011, in Bullhead City, Ariz. She was born December 23, 1923 in St Louis, Mo. “Marge or Margie”, as she was lovingly called, loved to dance, roller skate and ice skate. She spent a great deal of her youth ice skating in her hometown in Michigan and felt that one of her greatest achievements was skating with Sonja Henie in one of her films. Marge and her late husband, John, spent many hours square dancing, ballroom dancing and roller skating together. Marge also loved to travel, and her trips to Maui were her most favorite. Marge had a passion for gold panning and spent many back-breaking hours happily searching for the elusive “mother load” on California Highway 49. She also loved camping and exploring the desert on her Honda trail bike. Marge was very creative and one of her favorite pastimes was crocheting. She made afghans for each of her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Our mother died peacefully at home surrounded by her family. No services pending. Mason Jorge Betz 21, died in Tucson, AZ, on June 4, 2011. He was born at home on September 24, 1989 in Jerome, AZ. He has lived in Tucson since 1991. Mason attended Homer Davis Elementary School, Flowing Wells Junior High School, and graduated from Flowing Wells High School in 2008. Mason started playing guitar at age 9, and exhibited musical talent beyond all imagination. Predeceased by his grandparents, Luis and Margaret Betz. Survived by his mother, Cynthia Sank; his father, Oscar Betz; his stepfathers, Donald Kucsmas and Stephen Sank; his sisters, Scarlett Betz, Rhiannon Kucsmas, and Rebecca Cassanto; his grandparents, Bill and Thelma Wiest; his love, Taylor Wilson; many aunts, uncles, and cousins, and many, many brothers and friends. Mason has touched many lives with his amazing energy, wit, and unique outlook on life. Mason, we love you forever. Shine on, you crazy diamond. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 10, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at Flowing Wells High School Auditorium. All are welcome. Maurice "Maury" Schlossberg Born in Vienna, Austria on February 17, 1920 passed away on June 4, 2011 with his wife of 62 years, Amy Spears Schlossberg, at his side. Maury arrived in the United States in 1939 became a citizen in 1943. A member of the U.S. Army during WWII, he landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day 1944. Recipient of the, , he graduated from Springfield College in 1951 with a B.S. and in 1952 with a M.S. Throughout his life he was involved in physical activities; from education to water safety as well as skiing as an instructor or on a dance floor. Maury was a race car driver and a member of the SCCA and FIA. He owned his own sports car dealership in Springfield, MA. Appointed to the Pima County Planning Commission; Pima Assoc. of Governments; Arizona Commission of Indian Affairs and Sheriff's Auxiliary. Member of Tanque Verde Valley Assoc; Saguaro Forest Assoc; Southern Arizona Environmental Council; Friends of Saguaro National Park; Arizona Desert Museum and Sports Car Club of America. Past President of Elmcrest Country Club, Springfield, MA and Rolling Hills Golf Club, Tucson. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2011 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. STEWART, Ronald Dale (Ron) born April 25, 1953 in Bonne Terre, Missouri, the second of three sons of Harold L. Stewart, Sr., and Marjorie White Stewart. He physically left his parents, his brothers, Harold Jr. (Pam), Jonathan, and his much love cat MeMow on Sunday, May 8, 2011. Ron attended Mission Manor Elementary, Sunnyside Jr., High, and graduated from Sunnyside High in 1971. He was a member of the Thespian Society, a Boy Scout, Order of the Eagle, and a proud and accomplished member of a group of young actors and stunt men at Old Tucson and appeared in several movies filmed at Old Tucson. He volunteered in summer youth programs and with the distribution of food in rural Pima county. Ron Traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico to participate in the annual Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta for many years. He was a collector of all things Harley Davidson, an accomplished artist and photographer. Ron attended classes at UofA and Pima college's Flight School. Ron was the special uncle of Dara (Jon) Cirincione, Ricki (Travis) Rendessy, Elizabeth (Aaron) Krone, and the great-uncle of Maddi and Ella Rendessy. Ron was a long time friend and cared deeply about Jacque Froy and Jody Wilson, Scott, Anna, Melinda and Jill Rodgers, Nina and Ashley Albert, and Phil Pickett, Ronnie Timbush was an extraordinary friend. Ron has gone to join his wife, Karen Wertman Stewart in a place where they will have no pain nor sorrow, only love. He will always be loved and missed by his mom and dad, Harold and Marjorie; his brothers, Harold Jr., and Jonathan and his sister-in-law, Pamela, all other family members and special friends. William Kennedy Graham joined Our Lord on June 1, 2011. He was born on July 20, 1922 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Norman J. and Bessie Graham. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout, and graduated from Springville High School. He then joined the, to fight in, . After leaving the Navy as a Boatswain Mate, "Bill" returned to Springville, Iowa, where he met and married his beloved wife, Florence on March 10, 1946. He loved to travel and devoted his life to his wife and family. Bill was an admired manager in the business world and served as President of the Tobacco Distributors for several years. He retired from Belden Hill Company in Cedar Rapids, IA as their President. He obtained his private pilots license, owned planes, a sailboat and had a love for children and animals. He loved golf and sports and made them part of his life. Bill dedicated his life to pleasing his wife and family and will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Droste; his son, Steve (Jill) Graham; granddaughter, Kristen (Adam) Brown; grandson, Zach Graham; brother, Robert (Ida) Graham; sister-in-law, Georgia Smith; nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother, James Graham, and his sister, Patricia Reik. His body will be cremated and his ashes held to be joined with his wife's ashes. At a later date, a private service will be arranged and the ashes will be dispersed together. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to your favorite charity.
