Armand Mattausch

Armand Mattausch 90, died at home June 2, 2011 after a short illness. His wife, Eleanor "Ellie" survives him. They had been married 60 years. Armand was born August 10, 1920, in Cumberland, Wisc. The family moved to Zion, Ill., where Armand grew up. Armand and Ellie had three children, Susan Land of Show Low, Ariz., Gary Mattausch of Benson, Ariz. and Laura Creech of Shadyside, Md. There are two grandsons, Timothy and Nathaniel Creech of Shadyside. Armand enlisted in the, Air Corps (which became the Air Force) as a radar repairman during World War II. He was stationed in the Pacific. During his career as an electrical engineer he worked in Baltimore, Ft. Wayne, San Diego and Phoenix. He has lived in Oracle 13 years. Edward Richard Vorel, Jr. at the age of 67, Edward Richard Vorel Jr. went to join the Lord on June 1, 2011. Edward "Ed" is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Renate Edda Vorel; children, Ron and Steve Vorel; grandchildren, Anessa, Nathan, Brian, Devin and Dustin and great-grandchild, Starla. Preceded in death by his parents, Edward. Sr and Stella; sisters, Betty and Robbie. Ed was a loving family man that worked all his life in the mining and sand and gravel business. He served in the U.S., where he met and married the love of his life. Ed loved hunting and fishing and "always" put his family first. Funeral will be held at FUNERARIA DEL ANGEL, 7 E. Glenn B. Hicks Jr.

Glenn B. Hicks, Jr. and then there were none Born in Duluth, Minnesota on February 1, 1926 to Glenn B. Hicks and Ruth Stager Hicks, died May 27, 2011. Preceded in death by his parents, brother, James E. Hicks and sister, Barbara R. Scott. He leaves his beautiful wife, Barbara W. Hicks; children, Glenn B. Hicks III (Sally) and Deborah H. Jones (Wayne); grandchildren, Ben Jones (Shannon) and Chris Jones; great-grandchildren, Zachery, Quintin and Dawson Jones. Glenn is also survived by niece, Ceil Duclon and great-nieces, Victoria, Jessica and Lindsey. During his early years, Glenn lived in Duluth and St. Paul, MN until his high school senior year when his family moved to Evanston, Ill. He enlisted in the, Air Corps in September 1943 and served during, as a tail gunner on a B-17 in the 8th Air Force, 452nd Bomb Group, 731st Squadron, at Deopham Green England. Glenn was the last surviving member of his crew. After the war, he enrolled at the, in 1946 and graduated from the School of Commerce in January 1950. He was a member of Phi Kappa Psi (Delta) Fraternity. He and Barbara along with infant son, Glenn III, moved to Tucson in 1952 where he worked as a buyer for Steinfeld's department store until going into business with John Werstler, his brother-in-law. They started a small home furnishing store which eventually grew to stores on the east and central Tucson areas. In 1972 Glenn left the business and became an independent insurance broker with clients primarily in south eastern Arizona. Over the years, he was a member of the 20/30 club, Skyline Country Club, El Con Club, American Legion, USGA and other organizations. He got his private pilot's license while attending U of I in 1949 and had the joy and privilege of flying with the late Jim Stevenson. Although he enjoyed tennis, his love was golf and chalked up three aces. Both of his parents were avid golfers and instilled this passion to their son. Arrangements by BRING'S MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 236 S. John Louis Hayes

John Louis Hayes 8/27/1919 - 6/1/2011 Resident of Tucson, AZ. In loving tribute to John, beloved husband of 63 years, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is preceded in death by brothers, William and Donald; sister, Rita Provost; and son, Christopher. He is survived by wife, Sarah (Ford) Hayes; sister, Theresa Hayes of San Francisco, CA; son, John Richard (Millicent) Hayes of Patterson, CA; daughter, Catherine (Brian) Clark; sons, Paul and Thomas (Suzanne) Hayes as well as ten grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. John was born in Brockton, MA, attended the University of Maryland and enlisted in the, Air Corps during WWII. While in the service, he was a flight engineer and air crewman on B-17s and B-29s, based in the Panama Canal. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. He later piloted the PT-17, T-6, B-29, C-47, UC78 and KC-97. He retired in 1960 as a Major. He went on to work as a technical specialist on the Titan Missile and several years as a technical writer and real estate agent. He then attained the ultimate title of "couch potato". John was a father who enjoyed family trips to national parks and gatherings over the holidays. He was a loving, committed husband and a good provider. He had a unique way with words and recited many old sayings. He appreciated good humor and all things about military history. He lived well, loved much and laughed often. A Memorial Service will be held in his honor 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 11th, 2011 at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, 1800 S. Kolb Rd, with interment to follow at Our Lady of the Desert Cemetery, 2151 S. Avenida Los Reyes. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E Broadway Blvd.

Judith Elaine Galehouse

Judith Elaine Galehouse age 70, passed away after a short illness on June 2, 2011 with her loving family and best friend Pam by her side. She was preceded in death by parents Doris and Jack Galehouse; daughter JoAnn; nephew, Scott Galehouse, and brother-in-law, Mike Kollier. She is survived by brother, John (Barbara); sister Barb, and nieces, Jennifer (Alex), Amelia, and Molly. Her nieces fondly remember her as a loving aunt who provided them with many entertaining and educational experiences they will remember for a lifetime. Judith graduated from high school in Doylestown, Ohio and received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Kent State University. She spent her entire professional career helping others, first as a speech and hearing therapist in Ohio and New York and then as a teacher of the deaf for two decades in Oakland, California. Over the years she traveled extensively throughout the US and in Europe and South Africa. After retiring and moving to Tucson, Judith enjoyed swimming, hiking, playing bridge, and cooking. She started a book club that met at her home and became close friends with all who participated. Judith was an intelligent, kind, and compassionate person whose zest for life was an inspiration to all her friends. She was active in the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northwest Tucson where she pursued her love of singing with the church choir. She was a community activist and staunch Democrat who worked for many liberal causes. Judith was always willing to give a helping hand and a warm hug. She will be sorely missed by all of us who knew and loved her. If you want to honor Judith's memory, help someone in need and read a good book.
